Regulatory Framework

The Directorate of Pharmacy, Medicines and Laboratories is the body that regulates the pharmaceutical sector in Togo. There is little information online about all the regulatory functions performed by the NMRA. Nevertheless, people seeking to have medicines registered can find drug registration guidelines on Togo’s public sector website. The NMRA does not have its own website. Guidelines and application forms for licensing wholesale and retail distribution channels of medicines and medical devices, and for operating a medical and scientific promotion and information agency can be found on the public sector website.

Drug Registration

The guidelines articulate the format the application should be in, which is the ICH approved CTD format. It also details the various documents and items to be supplied when requesting for new market authorization, a renewal or registering a variation of an already registered drug. The drug registration procedure costs between 150 to 300 Euros.

Licensing

In Togo, people seeking to sell and distribute medicines and medical devices as well as reagents, consumables and biomedical devices for laboratories need a license before operating. Opening and operating medical and scientific promotion and information agencies also requires licensing from the NMRAs. The applications and guidelines to obtain these licenses can be found on the Togolese government’s website.
